NHI launches 2021 programs, offering on-campus and online experiences

June 6, 2021 was a day that National Hispanic Institute staff members and students have dreamt of since the COVID-19 pandemic transformed the landscape of 2020’s summer programming. With the successful staging of opening ceremonies for a special edition of the Collegiate World Series at Schreiner University, NHI returned to live on-campus programming for the first time in 22 months.

“We’re thrilled to be bringing on-campus experiences and the LDZ back to students, but we’re also excited that the GDx and CWSx programs we created to connect students online are back for 2021, showcasing our innovation and bridging physical distances to collaborate digitally,” said Nicole Nieto, NHI’s Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President.

The CWS program at Schreiner from June 6-10 is a dual program created for two different groups of students. The first group brings students who completed the League Series during the 2020 CWSx the chance to experience the Thought Series in-person, getting the Inquiry-Based Learning training at the heart of that program. There’s also a second group of students, from Mathis ISD in South Texas, who will be doing an entire CWS program in a five-day span.

The full schedule also includes four online GDx programs, bringing students new to NHI a digital version of the Great Debate experience, three in-person Lorenzo de Zavala Youth Legislative Sessions plus one virtual LDZx Youth Governance Journey, and two CWSx programs, bringing the Collegiate World Series online.
