Saturday, November 2 will be a historic day for the National Hispanic Institute, and through ¡NHI, Presente!, a new initiative of the NHI Board Fundraising Committee members, you can experience it even if you aren’t able to come to San Antonio for Celebración 2019.

From 10 am to 10 pm, NHI will provide a live stream via its YouTube channel and Facebook page. NHI will feature live coverage of Celebración events and live and prerecorded interviews. This NHI Board of Directors project will function as a fundraiser as well as a way for people who can’t get to San Antonio to experience Cele.

“This is a symbolic ‘roll call’ for our alumni to demonstrate their ongoing presence and participation in the NHI mission,” said Gloria de Leon, NHI’s Senior Executive Vice President and co-founder.

It also will allow the NHI First Families being honored at this special Celebración — part of NHI’s ongoing 40th anniversary festivities — a platform to share their stories.

“This one-day broadcast will feature interviews with our First Families, those who believed in and helped NHI realize its mission in the beginning,” said Nicole Nieto, NHI’s Senior Vice President. The First Families honorees, traveling from as far as New Mexico and Colorado to be at the event, were instrumental in helping Ernesto Nieto transform his initial vision into the leadership education organization that NHI is today.

The live stream event will, of course, also feature the more than 350 students who have converged on San Antonio to continue their journey to leadership.

“I am excited about the roaming camera at Celebracion,” Nicole Nieto added, “which will showcase our students in the final competition, and so much more from our young leaders! It is going to be a wonderful display of our community in action.”

¡NHI, Presente! will also launch the NHI Board of Directors’ fundraising campaign for the next 14 months. The Board’s goal is to raise $40,000 by the end of 2019, and an additional $60,000 by the end of 2020. The campaign is encouraging individual donors, including alumni and supporters, to give at levels ranging from $25 to $5,000. Sponsorships are also available at the $5,000 to $25,000; the Board has information packets available for those interested.

Each donor’s investment in NHI, billed as supporting “leadership in the life of every child,” supports:

  • scholarships to support undergraduate fellowships and the Hispanic Youth Opportunity Fund
  • capital improvements
  • research and development
  • outreach and recruitment
  • NHI’s “rainy day” fund

To donate, follow this link to the campaign’s Fundly page.
