NHI announces Nov. 17 Homecoming as part of Celebración 2017
Celebración 2017 is coming to Central Texas this coming November 16-19 — namely, to the Embassy Suites by Hilton San Marcos Hotel Conference Center & Spa, which is the closest it’s ever been to National Hispanic Institute Headquarters. That’s being done, in part, to allow for NHI to throw what could be its biggest Homecoming event ever, on Friday, November 17 at NHI Headquarters.
“We wanted the chance to bring NHI students and alumni together to the place where NHI’s work is done,” said NHI President and Founder Ernesto Nieto. Last year’s Celebración, by being in the Rio Grande Valley, was a chance for people to see where a lot of NHI’s work began, as well as to honor leaders who hail from the RGV and went through NHI training while attending high school there. This year, we want people to come to where the work is continuing.”
Though details are still be worked out, the Nov. 17 event will be a true fiesta featuring barbecue, music, and representatives from each of NHI’s four decades coming together.
Students participating in 2017 NHI summer programs will be eligible to participate in Celebración 2017, which encourages collaborative competition and furthers students’ knowledge of the principles they’ll learn and practice in the summer programs. More info about the upcoming event is available on the Celebración page of the official NHI website.
