All Texas Great Debate Participants Offered Austin College Scholarships
Austin College, in its ongoing partnership with NHI, has created an incredible scholarship opportunity for Texas Great Debate participants who attend college at the annual event’s home. According to Austin College director of admission, Matt Krov, the program will offer an NHI scholarship for all participants and a second scholarship for debate winners.
“In 2016, the partnership between NHI and Austin College is as strong as ever,” Krov said. “The energy, passion, and intelligence that you bring to campus each summer are elements that we would like to see again, when you enroll at Austin College and officially become Kangaroos. Each participant in the NHI Great Debate receives the NHI scholarship, valued at $3,000 per year for four years should they apply and be admitted to Austin College. In addition, we are proud to offer for the very first time, the Austin College NHI Great Debate Champions Scholarship. For participants in this Great Debate, hosted at Austin College, who earn designations of first place, second place, or state qualifier, those winners will receive an additional scholarship of $5,000 annually, should they apply and be admitted to Austin College.”
He also added, “We are proud of every single participant. Your involvement in NHI is already a significant achievement. Regardless of individual awards, all participants won. Of greater importance is that our communities win, as the work you have accomplished here this week, and will continue to accomplish in the course of your involvement in NHI, will prepare you to take up the mantle of leadership in your community and beyond. Be proud of your accomplishments and prepare yourselves. Our work is not finished when we leave this campus. It is just beginning.”
NHI’s Nicole Sada said, regarding the announcement, “Austin College is a stalwart supporter of Latino youth leadership development, and it shows through its 26-year commitment in only hosting thousands of NHI students on its campus through the Great Debate. I was absolutely thrilled when the institution further reaffirmed its dedication by offering this $5,000 award to Great Debate winners! On behalf of NHI staff, the NHI Board of Directors, and the students we serve, I can’t thank its leadership team enough for this honor.”
